Overview

This guide will go over the basic steps to create and upload a custom weapon for Dagger Directive.  In it you will find steps to download the template, model your own weapon, create the necessary icons, generate a configuration file, and finally upload it to the Steam Workshop to share with others.

Recommended Tools

Depending on what you are wanting to create you may need a mix of software.  Here’s our recommendations but other software should work too.

Modeling Software

Anything that can import and export .FBX files.  Internally we use Maya (paid) and Blender (free).

Texture Editing Software

Anything that can import and export .png files.  Internally we use Photoshop (paid), Affinity(free now), and Gimp (free)

Gimp - https://www.gimp.org/

Text Editor

Anything should work.  We use Notepad++

What can you make?

What is and is not supported at this time (this may not be a complete list):

Supported:

  • Weapons + settings

  • Magazines + settings

  • Fire Sound Effect

Limitations:

  • You must use a bullet or projectile that we have in the game.  This is a technical limitation but we’ve added quite a few bullets additional bullets for you to use. If there’s a special one you want, let us know and we may be able to add it.

  • We don’t have support for custom muzzle flashes, custom tracers, or attachments other than magazines.
